Prez Ed Signals That Steve's Score is GOOD!
Prez Ed Signals That Steve's Score is GOOD!
Steve and Sandy of S/V Pleiades captured the coveted BOC Blazer in the Independence Day Liberty Sailing Rally at Cochiti Lake on July 4th this year. We asked if there was any one factor that contributed to their victory...

"We were literally blown away," said Sandy. "We've never won a race before. We were in the right place with the right winds."

"I like the blowing away theory too, but I think it was the new head sail Paul gave us that put us in front," added Sparky.

"We're not bad racers but we've never been able to get quite enough boat speed before. Paul will be getting free electrical advice and help for the rest of the season."

The winds were light during the start but picked up to about 15 knots on the first leg. About half way through the race the winds increased further to 25 knots for a fast, straight run to the finish. Six boats started the race but mechanical problems and the threat of sail-ripping winds caused most of the fleet to be prudent and lower sails while they were still in one piece.

Third Place (Tie) - all the DNF boats...

The winds calmed down nicely after the race making for a wonderful evening of Culinary Justice and laff-filled awards ceremonies... replete with full moon and all around good natured lying stra-tee-gery.

The fun of the weekend (raft-ups, pedal paddle boating, swimming, dinghy driving and inflatable island hopping) was well documented by Prez Ed in the BOC photo gallery which you can visit HERE.
