YEAH!
It happened just like we predicted (sorta). There was a parade of sailboats and a river cruise and a pot-luck picnic and a lotta people. However, there was no official race because we had no place to gather to share the details of a couse and start time. This will not have to happen again.
Video: Cruising Back Down the Rio Grande on Memorial Day A couple of small storms moved off the mountain around 1 pm. Winds came up to 20+ knots and sailboats took off all over the lake... some reefing and enjoying the speed... others heading for cover to wait for lighter winds. This kept up for a couple of hours and we made the decision to head upriver to raft-up for a BBQ. Raft-up in Bland Canyon - (Brant Palley Photo) Brant took some great pictures in Bland Canyon. Most boaters got the word and attended... unfortunately, some did not... This will not have to happen again.
BECAUSE... BOC World Headquarters We will be launching the BOC World Headquarters on Thursday morning, June 7th. We will have a place to congregate... a communications hub... and a place to seek refuge. We need all the help we can get up at Estancia this coming weekend... here's the "A" LIST and "B" LIST of things to be done. The "A" LIST comes first... the "B" LIST can wait till we get on the water if neccessary. THE "A" LIST 1) remove old generator 2) install new generator 3) remove jet drives (May 31st Update: Greg removed Jet Drives on Wednesday 5/30) 4) weld up jet drive holes and exhaust holes 5) weld rail on top deck 6) other misc. welding 7) double check hull for any throughhulls or other holes that need waterproofing 8) install fire extinguishers and other safety equipment, life jackets, throwable rings, etc. THE "B" LIST 1) another coat of tan on the house 2) paint rails 3) paint deck 4) replace screens 5) paint pilot station 6) clean and deodorize bilge 7) clean blinds 8) wash windows 9) clean cupboards and floor 10) clean stove and oven 11) install icebox 12) install automatic bilge pump 13) install VHF radio and antenna (anybody have one to donate?) (May 30th update - Howard K. has donated a VHF radio - all we need is an antenna for it. - Thanks Howard!) 14) install air conditioner If there's any way you can make it out to Estancia Saturday and/or Sunday, June 2-3... we need your help! Meanwhile we have a sophisticated anchoring system for our mooring buoy under construction by Tom and Sailor Chuck. Don't know if it's far enough along to be deployed by the time the boat arrives but there are contingency plans in place. Dr. Chuck and MGO have a huge anchor to donate and we've thought of tying the headquarters to the hillside in San Francisco cove until the mooring is ready. Fairly good protection in there but we'd want to have someone on board until we moor permanently. Lotsa stuff to do... little time left... but it's all coming together, thanks to you. |
